Amotekun Corps arrested five suspected kidnappers in Ogun’s Rounder forest after a two‑phase operation that began on April 29.
Residents near the Rounder forest in Abeokuta North LGA reported seeing unfamiliar men moving at night, prompting complaints to local leaders. The forest, used by hunters and herders, became a focal point for security worries.
In response, the Amotekun Corps, the state‑run vigilante group, launched intelligence gathering and surveillance with help from local hunters who know the terrain.
On April 29 at about 8 p.m., operatives arrested two suspects following a tip‑off. The corps source said the initial arrests came after hunters pointed out a concealed camp.
Approximately thirteen hours later, a follow‑up sweep in the same area yielded three more suspects. Officers took all five into custody and handed them over to the Ogun State Police for further investigation.
Police Public Relations Officer Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed the transfer and said discreet inquiries are underway to assess the suspects’ links to kidnapping and other crimes. The police will determine whether the men are part of a larger network.
Security officials reiterated their commitment to protect lives and property, urging residents to report any suspicious activity. They stressed that cooperation between community vigilantes and formal forces remains key to curbing insecurity.
Observers will watch how the police investigation proceeds and whether additional operations target other forest hideouts in the coming weeks.
