1,100 Nigerians Return via Agadez Corridor as Migration Flows Resume
Over 1,100 Nigerians returned from Niger’s Agadez corridor on Friday, with agencies processing them for reintegration amid ongoing displacement in Diffa.

TL;DR
Over 1,100 Nigerian migrants arrived in Kano from Niger’s Agadez corridor on Friday, with federal and state agencies processing them for reintegration.
The Agadez corridor in northern Niger has long been a gateway for West Africans seeking to reach Libya and Europe. Recent security shifts after the 2023 coup have disrupted formal smuggling networks, yet irregular movement persists.
Meanwhile, conflict in Nigeria’s Northeast has driven at least 269,010 Nigerians to seek refuge in Niger’s Diffa region, according to UNHCR data from April 2026.
On Friday, the Nigeria Immigration Service reported that 1,100 Nigerians reached Kano by road from Agadez.
Personnel from the Kano Nationality Sortation Centre (KNSC), the state agency MAKIA, and the International Transit and Stay of Knowledge centre (ITSK) are on the ground to document, counsel and prepare returnees for reintegration with their families.
The processing uses the Migration Information and Data Analysis System at the Migrants Arrival, Knowledge and Information Area before moving individuals to ITSK for final profiling and psychosocial support.
The return flow suggests that despite crackdowns, migrants continue to test the Agadez route, often driven by limited options at home.
Authorities say the joint reintegration framework—run by immigration, anti‑trafficking bodies, the International Organisation for Migration and state governments—aims to reduce repeat journeys by offering counseling and family reunification.
Observers will watch whether increased processing capacity leads to fewer onward attempts or if renewed migration pressures push more people toward the corridor.
